Coding with the Community

Urban Tech Santa Ana was excited to participate in Coding with the Community with teacher Chris Camacho of Tufts University on August 28th 2017! Chris was an excellent instructor who taught attendees how to use Mozilla Thimble to make a basic webpage in HTML throwing in a few intermediate skills such as CSS styling and formatting. The two weekend class was taught at Garfield Community Center in Santa Ana and sponsored by Calle Cuatro Marketplace and Santa Ana Business Council.

Attendees aged from middle school all the way to adults and all who went agreed that they wish that there were more opportunities like it. For the youth who attended, it was a great opportunity to remind all adults that it is never too early to begin to learn coding. We hope that more community events like this can inspire all to become proficient in coding and using computers in a more involved way in their daily lives.

Thank you to Mayor Pro Tem Michelle Martinez, Santa Ana Business Council, Garfield Community Center, and last but not least Chris Camacho.

New Murals on Third and French Inspire and Bring Together Art and STEM

Local muralists and artists came together to create STE(A)M inspired murals which began in February 2017 and finished in May 2017, bringing inspiration to youth and community members of Santa Ana. Showcasing the various rovers, robots, and satellites of NASA, the murals illustrate the newly formed Mars Village of Urban Tech Santa Ana piquing the curiosity of passer-bys.

The Mission to Mars mural was also featured in an article in the OC Register showcasing different murals throughout Downtown Santa Ana.
